Alston House Hotel 0
Townfoot
CA9 3RN Alston (Map)

Short description

This family run hotel in tranquil Alston offers you locally sourced, home cooked food, in an area of outstanding natural beauty that is a paradise for walkers and cyclists.

There are recognised walking routes just a few minutes on foot from the hotel and cycle routes pass right by the hotel's front door, placing Alston House in an ideal location for those seeking to explore the unspoilt, sparsely populated moors around the town.

The hotel's pub restaurant offers hearty British fare for those left hungry after a day walking or cycling. Food is accompanied with a well selected wine list, real ales and traditional beers, all of which can be enjoyed whilst sitting in front of a log fire in winter.

Hotel information

Food and beverage:

Enjoy a hearty Cumbrian breakfast every morning, prepared using local produce wherever possible, including the famous Alston sausage.

All the food in the hotel's restaurant, open for lunch and dinner, is prepared from fresh ingredients, combining robust English fare with a sophisticated continental twist. As the pub is popular with both locals and visitors who enjoy the friendly, informal atmosphere Alston House provides, it is recommended you book your table early.

The bar is open daily from 12:00 until 14:00 and 17:00 until 23:00.

Room information

Rooms are decorated in light, neutral colours and have wooden furnishings and carpeted floors.

An extra bed can be added to rooms on request. The 'third person' will be required to pay full price.

Area information

Alston House is an ideal stopping point for those walking the Pennine Way or cycling the C2C cycleway, or Pennine Cycleway North. Both cycleways run past the front door.

The Pennine Way, the 270 mile route, which from the South takes in the Peak District and Yorkshire Dales before reaching Alston Moor, is just two minutes walk from the door so stopping over won’t involve an unwanted detour from your route.

For those planning a less strenuous visit to the area there are riverside walks, waterfalls, cycling, horse riding, the highest narrow gauge railway in England, gift shops and potteries.
